Mobility and Musings

Welcome to the first ever issue of Mobility & Musings!

As you may be aware, my first career was professional ballet. Dance was a DEEP part of me…a part I thought died forever when my career ended in injury 25 years ago. You can read more of my story here: My Healing Journey

While I moved on to an impactful career in marketing…it always felt like a piece of me was gone, or so I thought.

A few years ago, while still owning my marketing studio Brand Boss, I took a side gig teaching at a local dance studio. In addition to ballet, I was put in charge of “stretch & strength” conditioning for the dancers.

I very quickly saw how the injuries that ended my career could have been prevented entirely…if, as a professional dancer, we had been treated not only as artists, but athletes.

I began diving down internet rabbit holes, learning everything I could about body mechanics in my free time. Staying up all night watching exercise reels. Creating custom workout programs, long before I even knew what “programming” was.

I saw girls getting stronger and mastering moves they couldn’t do before. A figure skater who trained with us that had been told her body wasn’t able to do spirals…nailed her spiral on both sides. Another girl finally got her splits after just one session with me.

The more I saw the results, the more I learned… the more I was hooked. I continued to research on my own and develop new exercises, even after my season at the dance studio concluded.

A little over a year ago, while at a networking event for Brand Boss… God, in His sense of humor, dropped me right into the fitness industry.

That night I met a gym owner, subbed in to teach a barre class for her the very next day…and was invited to join her team as a trainer one month later.

What began as a 30 day “let’s see how this goes”… became a crazy intense 7 months of my life as I taught the majority of the gym’s group fitness classes while learning everything from HIIT, to Tabata, to personal training, hands-on. Like at the dance studio - the more I learned, the more I saw the results for these women of all ages and fitness levels…the more I was hooked.

It was time to make it official. During this time, I studied hard and earned my NASM personal trainer certification. And I knew it was time to spread my wings so I could help more people.

Launching a brand new business in a whole new field so soon after closing Brand Boss a few months prior felt a bit daunting. And yet, I’m not sure I’ve ever felt so aligned. It’s like part of me I thought was gone forever has come back to life in the most beautiful way.

So, Rachel, what exactly do you do now? I’m so glad you asked!

My passion and my expertise is helping YOU learn to listen to your body, overcome limitations, and move at your best, pain-free.

Whether you are a dancer, an athlete, or dancing through life, I believe freedom of movement and doing what you love without pain IS possible for you. No matter what you’ve been told. And no matter what age you are.

And it would be my honor to help you get there.
